Requirements for Getting Started

Make sure Perfect Portfolio Pro is compatible with your WordPress version.

Perfect Portfolio Pro will work with 4.7 and above versions of WordPress.

However, for the best experience, added features, and updated security patches, we recommend you to update your WordPress to the latest version.

If you haven’t downloaded WordPress already, you can download it from the WordPress repository via https://wordpress.org/download/

Checklist for Getting Started:

  • Check WordPress Version and Update it.
  • Install and Activate Perfect Portfolio theme.
  • Install Necessary Plugins. Some functionality of the theme might not work if you do not install the recommended plugins.

Recommended Image Size (in px)

Single Blog Post (without sidebar) :  1400×700 px

Single Portfolio post ( without sidebar) : 1400×700 px

Single Page (with sidebar) : 749×516 px

How to Check and Update the WordPress version:

  • Log in to the WordPress admin panel.
  • Go to Dashboard >Updates and update the theme if there is an update available.

How to Install and Activate Perfect Portfolio Theme

After you have the latest version of WordPress, save the downloaded Perfect Portfolio WordPress theme file (perfect-portfolio.zip) somewhere handy on your computer, as you will be using the included files for the rest of the installation process.

The Perfect Portfolio theme file includes:

A WordPress Theme Files (in .zip format) — This (perfect-portfolio.zip) is a compressed WordPress theme file containing all of the required templates, images, and icons required for the theme to function properly.

Note for Safari users (macOS): If you are using Safari to download the theme file, the file may unzip automatically. So, make sure your theme file is in .zip format. Here’s how to stop Safari from automatically unzipping your .zip file.

Now, to install and activate the theme follow these steps or the above gif:

  • Log in to WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance > Themes
  • Click on Add New button.

 

  • Click on Upload Theme.

  • Click on “Browse…”, select the “perfect-portfolio.zip” file from your computer and click Open.
  • Click Install Now.

  • After the theme is installed, click on Activate to use the theme on your website.

  • Click “Install” to install the plugins.

  • Click “Activate” to activate the plugins.

Site Identity (Add Logo, Name, and Tagline on your website)

You can change the name and logo of your website here.

  • Log in to WordPress Admin Panel.
  • Go to Appearance > Customize > Site Identity
  • Click Select Logo and upload your logo.
  • Enter Site Title and Tagline.
  • Check Display Site Title and Tagline.
  • Click Select Image and upload Image for Site Icon (favicon).
  • Choose the Font for Site Title and Tagline
  • Select Size Title font and Site title font size. 
  • Click Publish.

Home Page Setup

Configure the Home Page and Blog Page

  • Log in to WordPress Admin Panel.
  • Go to Appearance>Customize >Homepage Settings (Static Front Page in the earlier version of WordPress)
  • Select A static page under Your homepage displays.
  • If you are using this theme in a fresh WordPress installation, go to next point. If you are using this theme in an old WordPress, choose the page you want to set homepage as Homepage and choose the page you want to set as a blog page as Posts Page.
  • Click Publish.

About Section:

  • Go to Appearance > Customize > Frontpage Settings> About Section
  • Click on Add Widget
  • Add ” Rara: Icon Text” Widget. Enter Title and description of the section. Upload an image with Upload Image button or choose an icon for the section. Enter Readmore text and Read more link.

  • Click Done 
  • Click Publish

 

Gallery Section

Note: Before you start with the section, make sure you have added portfolios.

  • Go to Appearance > Customize > Frontpage Settings> Portfolio Section
  • Choose Portfolio Type
  • Choose the number of latest portfolios to display on the Gallery Section of the homepage. ( Latest Portfolio)
  • Enter View more label Text.
  • Click Publish.

Services Section

  • Go to Appearance > Customize > Frontpage Settings> Services Section
  • Click on Add Widget
  • Add ” Rara: Icon Text” Widget. Enter Title and description of the section. Upload an image with Upload Image button or choose an icon for the section. Enter Readmore text and Read more link.

 

  • Click Done 
  • Click on Add a widget to add more widget. ( You add the services in multiple of three to maintain  the design)
  • Click Publish.

 

Call to Action Section

  • Go to Appearance > Customize > Frontpage Settings> Call to Action Widget
  • Click on Add Widget.

  • Add “Rara: Call To Action widget”.
  • Enter the title and description. Choose the number of call to action buttons. Enter Button Label and Button Link. Choose the button alignment. Select a background color or upload a background image. Click Done.
  • Click Publish.

Blog Section (HomePage)

Note: Before you start with this section make sure you have created blog posts.

  • Go to Appearance > Customize > Frontpage Settings> Blog Section
  • Enable Blog section to display it on the homepage.
  • Enter the Blog title.
  • Enter View all Label Text
  • Click Publish.

Sort Homepage Section :

You can sort the homepage sections as you desire using this panel

  • Go to Appearance > Customize > Frontpage Settings> Sort Homepage Section
  • Click on the eye icon at the beginning of a section name to enable or disable the section.

  • Drag the sections up and down to arrange them.
  • Click Publish.

About Page Settings

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>About Page Settings >Enable About Us template
  • Enable Template to enable About Us Template for about page
  • Click Publish.

About Content Section

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>About Page Settings >About Content Section
  • Click on Add Widget. Add Rara: Featured Page Widget by clicking on it.

  • Enter the title, choose a page, choose whether to show or not to show page title, featured image and full content. Enter Read More text. Click Done.

  • Click Publish.

Client Logo Section:

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>About Page Settings >Client Logo Section
  • Click on Add Widget.
  • Add “ Rara: Client Logo

  • Enter the title of the section. Choose whether to display the logo in black and white.  Click on Add another logo to upload a logo.
  • Click Publish.

Testimonial Section:

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>About Page Settings >Testimonial Section
  • Enter Testimonial Title, Testimonial Subtitle, and select Testimonial Type
  • Click on Add Widget.
  • Add ” Rara: Testimonial” Widget for entering the testimonials. Enter the name, designation, and testimonial. Upload an image. Click Done

  • Click Add more  ” Rara: Testimonial” Widgets to add more testimonials.
  • Click Publish.

Service Page Settings

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>Service Page Settings >Enable Service Page template
  • Enable Template to enable Service Page Template
  • Click Publish.

Service Section

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>Service Page Settings >Service Page Section
  • Click on Add Widget
  • Add ” Rara: Icon Text” Widget  for entering the Services

Rara Business Services Section

  • Under ” Rara Icon Text ” widget, enter Title, Description, upload an image or choose an icon. Enter Read More Label and Read More Link for your service. Click Done.
  • Click Add more  ” Rara: Icon Text” Widgets to add more services.
  • Click Publish.

Resume Page Settings

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>Resume Page Settings >Enable Resume Template 
  • Enable Template to enable Resume Page Template
  • Click Publish.

Resume Section

  • Go to Appearance > Customize >Resume Page Settings> Resume Section
  • Click on Add Widget
  • Add ” Text” Widget for Title and description of the section. Enter Title and description and click done.
  • Click Publish.

Layout Settings

In this section, you can change the layout of various pages

Homepage Portfolio Section:

This section helps you change the layout of the portfolio section in the homepage.

  • Go to Appearance> Customize> Layout Settings> Homepage Portfolio Layout
  • Choose a layout.
  • Click Publish 

Blog Layout

  • Go to Appearance> Customize> Layout Settings
  • Choose a layout.
  • Click Publish 

General Sidebar Layout

  • Go to Appearance> Customize> Layout Settings> General Sidebar Layout 
  • Choose a layout for Page sidebar layout and Posts sidebar layout.
  • Click Publish 

Pagination Type

  • Go to Appearance> Customize > Layout Settings>Pagination Type
  • Choose  Pagination type
  • Click on Publish.

Portfolio Archive Setting

This section helps you change the Portfolio Archive Page layout.

  • Go to Appearance> Customize> Layout Settings> Portfolio Archive Settings
  • Choose a layout.
  • Click Publish 

Typography Settings

You can change the fonts of your contents and Header tags here.

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance> Customize> Typography Settings
  • Select the content type to change its typography

 

  • Configure your primary font, primary font size, and secondary font.
  • Click Publish

Header Settings:

  • Go to Appearance > Customize >General Settings>Header Settings
  • Enable Cart to show cart in the header section.
  • Enable Header Search to show search button in the header.
  • Enter Menu description
  • Click Publish.

Social Settings :

  • Go to Appearance > Customize >General Settings>Social Settings
  • Enable Social links to show social media links in the header section.
  • Enter your social media profile link for the respective social media.
  • Click Add news links to add social media links to the header.
  • Click Publish.

Social Sharing

You can enable/disable sharing icons for blog posts here.

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance> Customize> General Settings > Social Sharing
  • Enable/Disable Social sharing buttons
  • Enable/Disable Open Graph Meta Tags. 
  • Click on the eye icon at the beginning of a social network to enable or disable it
  • Drag the social media up or down to arrange them.
  • Click Publish.

SEO Settings

  • Go to Appearance > Customize >General Settings>SEO Settings 
  • Click Publish.

Posts and Pages Settings

  • Go to Appearance > Customize >General Settings> Posts and Pages Settings 
  • Enter Blog Description
  • Enter Popular Posts section Title
  • Enter Related Posts section Title
  • Enable Show Featured Imageto show featured image in a post detail (single page).
  • Click Publish.

Portfolio Post Settings

  • Go to Appearance > Customize >General Settings> Portfolio Post Settings 
  • Enable Show Related Posts to show related posts in single portfolio post.
  • Enter Related Portfolio Title
  • Choose Portfolio Image type to Image or Gallery.
  • Click Publish.

Sidebar settings

You can add and configure sidebars here. But, to add tools to the sidebar you should go to Appearance>Widgets.

Add a Sidebar

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance> Customize>General Setting> Sidebar Settings
  • Click Add new sidebar
  • Give the sidebar a name
  • Select the sidebar layout style
  • Click Publish

You can see the new sidebar in Appearance> Widgets. Add a widget to the sidebar and click save to configure the newly created sidebar.

Configure Sidebar

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance> Customize> General Setting> Sidebar Settings
  • Select Sidebars for various Pages, like Blog Page, Single Page, Single Post Page, etc. The sidebar selected under the particular pages will only be displayed on the page. For example: Blog Page Sidebar appears only on blog page.
  • Click Publish

Performance Settings

  • Go to Appearance> Customize> General Setting> Performance Settings 
  • Enable Lazy Load Content images for lazy loading of images inside page/post content.
  • Enable Defer Javascript for defers Javascript
  • Enable Remove ver Parameters to remove “ver” parameter from CSS and JS file calls.
  • Click Publish.

Navigation Menus (Create and Edit Menu)

You can create navigation menu from Customizer or from Dashboard.

Create a New Menu from Customizer

  • Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance > Customize> Menus in the WordPress Dashboard.

  • Click on Create a New menu button.
  • Give a name to your menu and select the Menu Location as Primary. If you plan to use the widget, you can skip this for now and create a menu from Appearance > Widgets.
  • Click Next.

  • Click “Add Items” to add items (pages, posts, categories, custom links…) to the Menu
    Click “+” icon on the items list to add the item to the menu.
  • Drag and Drop the added items to rearrange them.
  • Click Publish.

Create Menu from Dashboard

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance > Menus in the WordPress Dashboard.

  • Click on “create a new menu”.

  • Give a name to your menu in Menu Name and click Create Menu button.

  • Select the items from Pages, Posts, Custom Links, or Categories and click “Add to Menu”.

  • Drag and Drop the added items to rearrange them.
  • Check the Menu location to Primary.
  • Click Save Menu.

Widgets

You can add the widgets to the sidebar in two ways – via Dashboard and Customizer.

Adding Widgets via Customizer

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance> Customize > Widgets
  • Make sure you are on the page you want to add widgets to.
  • Click on the desired location: Sidebar or Footer (where you want to add widgets)
  • Click on Add a Widget to add widgets.
  • Select desired Widgets and give a title to the widget.
  • Click Add a Widget to add more widgets in the sidebar.
  • Drag and reorder the widget as desired.
  • Click Publish.

Adding Widgets via Dashboard

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance > Widgets
  • Available widgets are listed on the left-hand side while Sidebars and footer are listed on the right side.
  • Drag and drop the widgets to the desired sidebars. Or, click on the widget and select the sidebar you want to add the widget to.

Remove  Widget

  • Go to Appearance> Customize>Widget
  • Click the desired Widget Area ( Right Sidebar, Footer One, Footer Two etc)
  • Click the widget you want to delete and click delete.
  • Click Save Changes.

Footer Credit

You can edit your lower footer here.

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard
  • Go to Appearance> Customize> Footer settings
  • Hide or Show Author Link and WordPress Link. (Blue is Hide)
  • Enter Footer Copyright text.
  • Click Publish.

 

Create a New Page

  • Go to Pages > Add New.
    Add Page
  • Enter the Page Title for the Page
  • Write the required Text in the content section
  • Select the Default Template from the Page Attributes section
  • Click Publish.

    Create a Portfolio Page

    • Go to Pages > Add New.
      Add Page
    • Enter the Page Title for the Page
    • Select the Portfolio Template from the Page Attributes section
    • Click Publish.

    Add a New Portfolio

    1. Go to Portfolios>Add new.
    2. Give a title and fill it with content
    3. Upload a featured image by clicking on Set Featured Image on the right sidebar of the screen.
    4. Click Publish.

Add a New Post

  1. Go to Posts>Add new.

  2. Select the post format on the right sidebar.
  3. Give a title and fill it with content
  4. Upload a featured image by clicking on Set Featured Image on the right sidebar of the screen.

Additional CSS

You can add extra CSS codes here to customize the appearance and layout of your site.

  • Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  • Go to Appearance> Additional CSS
  • Enter your code.
  • Click Publish when you are done.

Note: When using a keyboard to navigate:

  • In the editing area, the Tab key enters a tab character.
  • To move away from this area, press the Esc key followed by the Tab key.
  • Screen reader users: when in forms mode, you may need to press the escape key twice.

The edit field automatically highlights code syntax. You can disable this in your user profile(opens in a new window) to work in plain text mode.

Helpful Tips

  • We highly recommend using Child Theme if you need to change the code of the theme. Do not change the codes in the files of the parent theme as all such changes will be lost when the theme is updated. Here’s an easy to follow guide if you don’t know how to create a child theme.
  • Always keep BackUp of your theme before making any changes to the theme.
  • If you get any problem in using the theme, you can do the following things:
    • Deactivate the plugins, sometimes plugin conflict may cause issues with the theme. Please deactivate the unused plugins.
    • Replace the latest modified code with the original code.
